Mercedes Exec Dir Toto Wolff Says 'We Think We Did Nothing Wrong' In Tire Controversy

The big takeaway from F1's marquee event, the Monaco Grand Prix, is not Mercedes' first victory of the season, but the controversy of its allegedly illegal Pirelli tire test following the Spanish Grand Prix. Asked about the issue, Mercedes Exec Dir Toto Wolff told SBD Global, "Lots has been said and enough has been said. We think we did nothing wrong." Motorsports governing body FIA has launched a probe after rival teams Red Bull and Ferrari filed an official protest. F1 rules state that Pirelli is allowed to carry out 1,000km of testing with any team during the season -- as long as every team is offered that opportunity. Wolff added, "We respect the authority of the FIA looking into the situation right now to clarify the situation and we will see where that leads to." The problem seems to be that FIA said it received no confirmation from Pirelli or Mercedes that all the teams had been been given the chance to take part.
