Event Notes: Swiss Hockey Federation To Reinstate Swiss Ice Hockey Cup Competition

The Swiss Ice Hockey Federation and marketing partner InfrontRingier will launch the new edition of the Swiss Ice Hockey Cup knockout competition for the '14-15 season. In Sept. '14, the first of five rounds of the new Swiss Ice Hockey Cup will get underway, featuring the 32 best teams of Switzerland (Infront Sports & Media). ... Indonesia is gearing up to host the second edition of the MetaMan Triathlon in Bintan, Riau Islands, an annual iron-distance triathlon. Approximately 500 triathletes, triathlon enthusiasts and travelers "will compete in the event, which is set to be held on Aug. 31" (JAKARTA GLOBE, 5/28). ... Stop Global Warming Association Thailand claimed on Tuesday that the Sports Authority of Thailand's plan to hold a F1 race in Bangkok "will harm the environment and people's safety." THAISGWA NGO President Srisuwan Janya said that "accidents were common at this type of race." He said that "besides the loud noise, severe vibrations caused by the speeding race cars can do some damage to structures of the Grand Palace and other historical buildings." THAISGWA "will ask the Administrative Court to consider suspending the project immediately if relevant agencies still want to push the project forward" (BANGKOK POST, 5/28).
