More Than 21 Million Watch Champions League Final On ZDF; F1 Race Tops On RTL

German public broadcaster ZDF "not unexpectedly recorded record ratings for its broadcast of Saturday's Champions League final between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund," according to Daniel Sallhoff of QUOTENMETER. A total of 21.61 million viewers tuned in at 8:46pm German time to watch ZDF's broadcast. Last year's final, which aired on German free-to-air TV channel Sat. 1, attracted 19.21 million viewers and therefore about 2.4 million less than Saturday's game. In the target demographic 14-49, Bayern's 2-1 victory attracted 8.51 million viewers, which translated into a 62.5% market share. In addition, German pay-TV channel Sky "received satisfying ratings for its broadcast of the Champion League final." The game's first half on Sky attracted 880,000 viewers. The number increased to 890,000 viewers in the second half. Sky obtained an overall market share of 2.5% and a 3.5% share in the target demographic (QUOTENMETER, 5/26).

MONACO F1 GRAND PRIX: The SID reported German free-to-air TV channel RTL "recorded top ratings with its broadcast of Sunday's Monaco F1 race." A peak audience of 8.56 million viewers tuned in to watch Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg's victory. RTL attracted an average of 7.47 million viewers to its broadcast, which equaled a 36.3% market share (SID, 5/27).

BBL PLAYOFFS: DWDL's Alexander Krei reported German free-to-air TV channel Sport1 "has received high ratings for its broadcast of the second game of the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) semifinal series between Bayern Munich and Brose Baskets Bamberg." An average of 290,000 viewers tuned in on Sunday to watch Bamberg tie the series at one game apiece. In the target demographic, the game obtained a 1.2% share (DWDL, 5/27).
