Japan's J League has signed on to a partnership agreement with the Football Federation of Cambodia in a "major development boost" for the Kingdom, which ranks among the lowest rungs of world football (PHNOM PENH POST, 5/27). ... The best 100 young sportspersons in each district of India "will get an assured government job." This is part of the new plan of the sports ministry. Named the "Identification and Nurturing Sports Talent," the plan is to set up a special school in every district of the country to provide training and guidance "to young and budding sports children" (HINDUSTAN TIMES, 5/26). ... A Rs 21-crore ($3.7M) notice to Jaypee Sports Int'l, a subsidiary of Jaiprakash Associates, is "on its way for alleged evasion of service tax on acquisition of the rights to host and stage" the F1 race (Indian BUSINESS STANDARD, 5/27). ... India's Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports has "sanctioned a grant" of about Rs. 3 crore ($539,000) towards the construction of a gymnasium hall and the procurement of related equipment, for the Mary Kom Regional Boxing Foundation, being set up in Imphal (THE HINDU, 5/24).
