Sudirman Cup Likely Last Event Malaysia Will Host Due To New BWF Ruling

The Sudirman Cup "will probably be the last major event that Malaysia will host," according to THE STAR. Badminton Association of Malaysia is "unhappy" with the Badminton World Federation’s new ruling that "limits the national body from making some extra money through commercial rights." The BWF has "come out with a new contract for all hosts of major events whereby the world body take 80% of the profit from the commercial rights." BAM GM Kenny Goh said that they "were restricted in many ways from gaining some advantage as the hosts as BWF were running the show." Goh: "This commercial model for major events does not favour the hosts" (THE STAR, 5/22).
