Football Notes: Brazil Police Ban Country's Version Of Vuvuzela Due To Safety

Police in Brazil have banned the use of the caxirola -- "the country's version of the vuvuzela" -- from a 2014 World Cup football stadium amid safety concerns. The type of maraca will be prohibited from a local match at Salvador's FonteNova stadium on Sunday after hundreds of the plastic objects were thrown onto the pitch by fans during a match last month (XINHUA, 5/12). ... Ligue 1 Paris St. Germain Manager Carlo Ancelotti has received an offer from the club's owners that would provide "a considerable increase" of his income and extend his contract until '16. Ancelotti "is thinking on it but has asked the owners for one condition: to have absolute power in the athletic aspect" (MUNDO DEPORTIVO, 5/12). ... La Liga Rayo Vallecano coach Paco Jémez angrily defended his players from accusations of throwing games. Jémez: "There are a lot of opportunists, cowards and sewer rats that take advantage of whatever situation to say things without proof. The pain is that in this country, nothing happens to these people for saying things like this. There is a lot of cowardice and shamelessness. In this country you can say what you want and nothing happens" (LIBERTAD DIGITAL, 5/11).
