Italian Football Club Announces Three-Year, $262M Stadium Project On Genoa Seafront

Italian football club Sampdoria has become the latest Serie A side to present plans for a new stadium after "detailing proposals for a 30,000-seat venue on the seafront of Genoa," according to SOCCEREX. Sampdoria unveiled its plans to Genoa city council on Friday and "hopes to build the stadium within three years." The project will reportedly cost at least €200M ($261.6M), with the stadium "envisioned as the anchoring part of a multi-use sports development." Sampdoria is also "planning to develop an arena to host high-end sports events and concerts, along with a ‘sports city’ area that would encompass facilities such as gyms, sports centres, theme shops and special areas for sports such as climbing." Sampdoria currently shares the 36,700-seat Luigi Ferraris Stadium with city rival Genoa (SOCCEREX, 4/15).
