League Notes: FIH President Says Field Hockey Is Free Of Match-Fixing But Not Doping

The Int'l Hockey Federation (FIH) claimed that field hockey "is free from match-fixing -- but not doping." FIH President Leandro Negre said, "Hockey is safe and hockey is clean. It is the selling point of the sport. However, there is the possibility of doping among individuals who use drugs, in social, but not in international matches" (THE STAR, 2/28). ... Cricket Scotland has taken the top prize of the Pepsi Int'l Cricket Council Development Programme Annual Awards 2012, claiming the Best Overall Cricket Development Programme for the second time in three years. Cricket Kenya and the Maasai Cricket Warriors were awarded the Best Cricket Promotion and Marketing Campaign (ICC). ... Threatening the Indian Amateur Boxing Federation with an extended spell of suspension, the int'l amateur boxing association (AIBA) "has rejected the barred body's claim of getting approval for its amended constitution, calling it a 'work in progress' for the time being" (PTI, 2/27). ... The Asian Football Confederation is not aware of any suspicion linking Lebanon's World Cup qualifiers to the country's match-fixing scandal but has requested a full report" (REUTERS, 2/28).
