More than a century after it was included in the inaugural Olympics, wrestling "may be forced into submission" after the IOC exec board proposed dropping the sport in 2020, according to Ashling O'Connor of the LONDON TIMES. The recommendation "hands a reprieve" to modern pentathlon, which was named as a sport possibly on the chopping block. Wrestling, which combines freestyle and Greco-Roman events, goes back to the inaugural modern Olympics in Athens in 1896.
