Event Notes: Violent Fans Storm Court, Delay Game Of Greek Cup Basketball Final

The Greek Cup basketball final "was struck by violence Sunday, with fans storming the court and tearing seats apart, and police using stun grenades to contain the mayhem." The game "was suspended for an hour before Panathinaikos defeated archrival Olympiakos 81-78 in front of nearly empty stands" (AP, 2/10). ... The small German town of Willingen "is expected to continue hosting a ski-jumping world cup event." Int'l Ski Federation (FIS) Ski Jumping Race Dir Walter Hofer said, "Willingen will stay a permanent host. Places where so many fans show up and have such a tremendous atmosphere simply belong in the world cup." However, the final decision about Willingen's world cup future "lies with the German Ski Federation (DSV)" (SPORT1, 2/8).
