Super Bowl Scores Top Ratings For German TV Channel Sat.1; Bundesliga Strong On Sky

German private-TV channel Sat.1 "has broken last year's ratings record for its live broadcast of the Super Bowl," according to Manuel Weis of QUOTEN METER. More than 1 million viewers (1.26 million) tuned in to watch Sat.1's Super Bowl XLVII pregame coverage, which started at 12:10am German time. In the target demographic 14-49, the pregame coverage received a 20.4% market share. The game's first quarter was watched by 1.33 million and obtained an overall market share of 19.5%. In the target demographic, the channel's share was 28.9%. At 1am, the market share in the target demographic increased to 34.6%, while a total of 1.14 million viewers stayed up to watch the Baltimore Ravens beat the San Francisco 49ers, 34-31. The halftime show, which aired shortly before 2am German time, attracted 890,000 viewers while the market share in the target demographic dropped to 34%. Around 2:30am, when a power outage disrupted the game, Sat.1 was watched by 900,000 viewers and received an extremely strong share of 39.1% in the target demographic. Overall, the private channel obtained a tremendous 28.3% market share. Ratings for the period after 3am "have not been released yet" (QUOTEN METER, 2/4). 

BUNDESLIGA RATINGS: DWDL's Alexander Krei reported German pay-TV channel Sky "scored strong ratings with its Sunday Bundesliga broadcast." An average of 1.04 million viewers tuned in to watch the match between Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund. In the target demographic, Dortmund's 3-2 victory obtained a 5.7% market share. Prior to the Leverkusen-Dortmund game, Sky aired the match-up between FC Nuremberg and Borussia Mönchengladbach. The game attracted 660,000 viewers and received a 3.9% share. Additionally, Sky's simulcast of Saturday's Bundesliga games attracted 1.33 million viewers (DWDL, 2/4).

EUROSPORT EUPHORIA: DWDL's Krei also reported pan-European sports channel Eurosport has had a successful start into '13. Eurosport said that "it was the channel's most-successful January since '10." The channel profited from its live broadcasts of the Australian Open, Dakar Rally and several winter sports events. In comparison to last year, Eurosport "was able to increase its ratings Europe-wide by 5.3%." In comparison to '11, the increase was almost 20% (DWDL, 2/4).
