Korea FA Votes In Former K League Commissioner As President

Former K League Commissioner CHUNG MONG-GYU has been elected president of the Korea FA, according to Kang Seung-woo of the KOREA TIMES. The 51-year-old Hyundai Development Company chairman will serve a four-year term through '16. Chung said, "I want to share the joy with all those in the football circle. I will try to make football a culture that everyone can enjoy" (KOREA TIMES, 1/28). In Seoul, Moon Gwang-lip wrote the appointment of Chung, the "Oxford-educated heir of the Hyundai Group," has been seen as him "following in the footsteps of his cousin" FIFA Honorary VP CHUNG MONG-JOON. Newly appointed Chung won 15 of the 24 votes in the runoff election against KFA Vice Chair HEO SEUNG-PYO. Chung is the "longest-serving football club owner" in South Korea (KOREA JOONGANG DAILY, 1/29). Chung said he will work to achieve the "great integration" of the football community through "communication and harmony." Chung: "I will soon form a panel with football experts and fans, and we'll discuss ideas on how to improve football in this country and how to resolve any outstanding issues at the KFA" (YONHAP, 1/28).
