Dundee United Steps Back From Rangers Feud, Fans Disappointed By Ticket Boycott

Scottish Premier League Dundee United is in consultation with the Scottish FA after Third Division Rangers announced that they "will not accept their ticket allocation" for February's William Hill Scottish Cup tie at Tannadice Park, according to the Scotland DAILY RECORD. The Dundee board, led by Chair Stephen Thompson, met with the fifth-round cup clash on the agenda after Rangers announced that "supporters should not attend" their first match away to SPL opposition since they were relaunched as a new company and denied entry to the SPL. A statement from Dundee read: "It is with huge disappointment that we read both the content and tone of the statement from Rangers, stating that they will not be taking any tickets for our Scottish Cup tie in February and urging their supporters not to attend. However, we do not intend to enter into a war of words with Rangers or to dignify their position by responding in kind." Rangers' announcement "brings into question whether they will be entitled to share in the revenue generated by the fixture, with the matter up for discussion at a meeting of the SFA board" (DAILY RECORD, 12/5).

LIVING IN THE PAST: The SCOTSMAN reported Dundee fans have "responded with disappointment." In a statement, Rangers CEO Charles Green said, "Everyone at this club is dismayed at the actions of certain SPL clubs, which were actively engaged in trying to harm Rangers when we were in a perilous situation, and we are acutely aware of their attitude to us." A joint statement from Dundee United Supporters Society ArabTRUST and The Federation of Dundee United Supporters Clubs said, "In a time when Scottish football needs to look to the future and how we can rebuild our game, it’s sad that some parties choose to refer to past alleged indiscretions against their club as an excuse to not attend the match" (SCOTSMAN, 12/5).
