South Korean Pitcher Could Go To MLB After Dodgers Offer Almost $26M

Korea Professional Baseball club Hanwha Eagles left-hander RYU HYUN-JIN has the chance to join the MLB L.A. Dodgers "on a big contract," according to Kang Seung-woo of the KOREA TIMES. Ryu said, "It’s a dream come true." The Dodgers' winning bid totaled at $25.7M "to negotiate a contract over a 30-day period" with the 25-year-old. The offer ranks as the fourth highest for an Asian player behind three Japanese pitchers: $51.7M for YU DARVISH, $51.1M for DAISUKE MATSUZAKA and $26M for KEI IGAWA. Estimates vary "about the pay package Ryu may be offered." Ryu's agent is SCOTT BORAS, who represents "many top-dollar players in MLB." Boras has reportedly said that Ryu "could wait and earn free-agent status by playing two more years for Hanwha if the deal offered is considered too low, as that would raise his value significantly" (KOREA TIMES, 11/11).
