Great Britain's Olympic track champions Laura Trott, Dani King and Jo Rowsell "have joined a women's road team backed by Tour de France winner Bradley Wiggins," according to BBC.com. The new DTPC (Dream Team Pro Cycling) Honda Team "will receive funding from Wiggins' Wiggo Foundation." A team statement read: "Wiggins' support will further enable the girls to fulfil their potential out on the road" (BBC.com, 11/6). The PA reported that the DTPC Honda Team "will be registered in Britain and led by the Australian Rochelle Gilmore, the Commonwealth Games champion, who is 'presently in deep negotiations [over the naming rights] with a global company based in the U.K.'" In the wake of his Tour triumph and fourth Olympic Gold Medal, Wiggins stated his wish "to support women's cycling" (PA, 11/6).
GOLD, SO WHAT?: The PA also reported "the gold throne" that Wiggins sat on after winning gold at the Olympics "failed to sell at auction on Tuesday." It was expected to sell for £10,000-£15,000 ($16,000-$24,000). However, the maximal bid was for £9,500 ($15,200), and because "it did not reach the reserve price, the throne was not sold" (PA, 11/6).
