ServusTV Chooses To Broadcast Felix Baumgartners' Space Jump Over Hockey

Austrian TV channel ServusTV "set a new ratings record" in Austria with its broadcast of Thursday's failed Red Bull Stratos space jump, and even Germans tuned in, according to Alexander Krei of DWDL.de. ServusTV "obviously wants to broadcast extreme athlete Felix Baumgartners' next attempt to jump from out of space." The next try is scheduled for Sunday and "coincides with ServusTV's weekly German Hockey League (DEL) coverage." DEL fans "will have to go online" to watch the match-up between Hannover and Mannheim. The game will be live broadcast on the websites of ServusTV and also on Laola1.tv. ServusTV promises to provide TV viewers with regular scoring updates of the game. ServusTV CEO Martin Blank said, "Technically it is of course a big challenge. However, we are well prepared and will handle it professionally" (DWDL.de, 10/11). The same is true for Sunday's broadcast of the Austrian Erste Bank Eishockey Liga game between Klagenfurt and Villach that was also scheduled to air live on ServusTV. In case the space jump has to be aborted, ServusTV will broadcast both the DEL and the EBEL game live at 5:25pm CEST (ServusTV).
