FIS Plans To Host A World Ski Jumping Event Inside The Warsaw Football Stadium

The Int'l Ski Federation (FIS) has "plans to host a World Cup Ski Jumping event" at the recently opened football stadium in Warsaw, Poland, according to SKISPRINGEN.com. Ski Jumping Race Dir Walter Hofer visited the stadium this week and "seems convinced of the idea." Hofer said, "It fits our plan of extending the winter season for one or two weekends. In this context we are looking for options to have an earlier season opening." A FIS requirement for World Cup Ski Jumping events is the presence of snow. Hofer said, "Technical upgrading is possible in order to implement such an event at that time." Hofer also said that the "competitive aspect of the event has to be unaffected and that is has to be possible to install a suitable hill size and take-off ramp inside the stadium." He added: "This is a technical question that we are currently working on." Polish media outlets reported that FIS Ski Jumping Committee Member Jan Kowal "has already come up with concepts that include hill sizes from K65 to K100." A possible date for the inaugural event at the stadium in Warsaw could be the World Cup opener of the '13-14 Olympic winter season (SKISPRINGEN.com, 10/4).
