Rio 2016 Committee Fires 10 Employees For Stealing Data In London

The Organizing Committee of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games "fired 10 employees for downloading data without permission from computers at the London Games," according to Pedro Fonseca of REUTERS. On Friday, a statement by the committee said that the employees were working at LOCOG, "as part of the partnership between the two organizations" (REUTERS, 9/21). The AP wrote the Rio committee said the 10 employees were engaging in conduct "contrary to the ethical principles and mutual trust shared by the two organizations." The committee called it an "isolated case," noting that about 200 Rio employees were represented in London during the Olympics and Paralympics. The "nature and content of the London files was not immediately known." IOC spokesperson Mark Adams said, "It's an issue between Rio and London, which they have dealt with" (AP, 9/21).
