India field hockey player SARDAR SINGH and Australia captain JAMIE DWYER were named as brand ambassadors of the inaugural Hockey India League. Hockey India also "unveiled the logo for the six-team franchise-based event" (PTI, 9/18). ... Daily Star Chief Sports Writer BRIAN WOOLNOUGH has died after a "long struggle against bowel cancer." The 63-year-old was also a "well-known face on TV," hosting Sky Sports' Sunday Supplement from '07 after previously being the presenter of Hold the Back Page from '94 (London INDEPENDENT, 9/18). ... The Int'l Cricket Council and Pakistan Cricket Board "have been left fuming" after banned cricketers SALMAN BUTT and MOHAMMAD AAMER made TV appearances on special ICC World Twenty20 shows. An ICC spokesperson said, "We can't interfere or tell any media organization what to do. But certainly they need to look at these things themselves, as these players are certainly not role models for the younger generation" (PTI, 9/18).
