FIFA Postpones IMG-Reliance's IPL-Style Football Tournament

The All India Football Federation’s commercial and marketing partners IMG-Reliance’s proposed two-month promotional tournament "has been postponed at least until the start of the '13-14 season," according to Rahul Bali of GOAL.com. The Indian Premier League-style football event was originally scheduled to kick off in January, however, following FIFA's recent meetings in India, the governing body is "insisting on all the rules and regulations of the same being run through them before it materializes." Therefore, the tournament has been deferred, as IMG-Reliance is still "working on the modalities." IMG-Reliance, through the AIFF, "had earlier hoped that the I-League clubs would let go of their players and coaching staff for the two-month promotional tournament" and in return receive four-month wages as compensation (GOAL.com, 9/13).
