Atletico Madrid's Supercup Victory Is Boosting Sales At The Club's Official Store

La Liga's Atletico Madrid has seen a 35% increase in sales at its official store to start the season, according to J. Casáñez of AS. A big reason is striker Radamel Falcao, who alone is selling 20% more shirts than he did last season. The Colombian "is a fan favorite" and accounts for 60% of the club's shirt sales. Atletico's second shirt "has seen an increase of 200% in sales." In the past, for every three home jerseys sold, the club would sell one away kit. Now the ratio is 2-to-1. The club's Supercup victory over Chelsea "has had a direct impact on merchandising." One in every six articles sold in the club's official store commemorates the team's title (AS, 9/6). SPORTUNE.fr opined that the club should wait as long as possible to sell Falcao in order to take advantage of his prowess in the marketing department (SPORTUNE.fr, 9/6).
