Valencia Has Generated More Than $203M In Transfer Deals Over Four Years

La Liga club Valencia has "the most international team in the history of the club," with very few Spanish players in the squad, according to Diego Picó of MARCA. It's a trend that has occurred over the last four years as more Spanish players have been sold to other European clubs "in an effort to pay off Valencia's considerable debts." Overall, 12 Spanish players have left Valencia, helping the club generate €159M ($203.5M) through transfer deals. This summer alone, the club has "sold a goalkeeper, four defenders, three midfielders and four top class forwards." The club "cashed in big time" in '10 when it sold David Villa to Barcelona and David Silva to Man City for €73M. In '11, Chelsea FC paid nearly €28M ($36M) to Valencia for Juan Mata. This year's "big transfer deal" has been that of Jordi Alba, who was sold to Barca for €14M ($18M) (MARCA, 9/7).
