Ronaldo Tells Real Madrid President That He Wants To Leave Club, Spanish Media Report

Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo told club President Florentino Perez that "he no longer felt the support of the dressing room and he wanted to leave the club unless things changed," according to Tomas Roncero of AS. The Portuguese asked for a private meeting with Perez on Saturday night and told him that "things could not continue like this at the club." Ronaldo's relationship with many of his teammates "has changed this season." He has become closer to Fabio Coentrao and "has fallen out" with Marcelo, who used to be his best friend at the club, along with Pepe. Ronaldo "did not understand" why Marcelo would publicly declare that Casillas deserved to win the Ballon D'Or. The Portuguese currently earns €10M ($12.6M) net per season, but "the club does not think the problem is economic" (AS, 9/3). SPORT.es reported that "alarms have gone off" at the Santiago Bernabéu following declarations by Ronaldo. The striker "is unhappy" and appears ready to "abandon the club." Very few clubs appear to have the financial capability of acquiring Ronaldo. Ligue 1 Paris St. Germain who "are the new rich in world football" and "will not wait long to make an offer to bring Cristiano to Paris" are a possibility. The French league is one of the few who still has an open transfer window "and money is not a problem" for PSG's ownership (SPORT.es, 9/3). SKYSPORTS.com's Graeme Bailey reported that "every Spanish media outlet is in harmony over the Ronaldo story." The news broke after the player "visibly failed to celebrate" either of his two goals in the team's 3-0 win over Granada on Sunday. Some sources said that despite having three years left on his current deal, Ronaldo is "shocked that no new deal has been offered to him" (SKYSPORTS.com, 9/3).
