ManU Manager ALEX FERGUSON has "banned the club's young stars from driving flashy sports cars" from new sponsor Chevrolet, according to Ian Ladyman of the London DAILY MAIL. The club recently signed a multi-million-pound deal with the American company. As a gesture of goodwill, Chevrolet immediately offered the team's first-team players a choice of luxury cars and "understandably many of the club's big names plumped for iconic Corvettes." However, Ferguson immediately intervened and "decreed that no player under the age of 23, no matter their standing in the team, should be allowed to order a sporty model" (DAILY MAIL, 8/27). In London, Neil Custis reported that only older members of the team "who are more experienced drivers," like RIO FERDINAND, 33, will be allowed to drive a £70,000 ($87,948) Corvette. The car goes from 0-60mph in 3.4 seconds. In addition to safety concerns, Fergie is well known for not letting his young stars get too flashy. Other Chevrolet models available to the younger players include the £35,000 ($43,974) Camaro, the £22,500 ($28,269) Captiva and the £8,500 ($10,679) Spark (THE SUN, 8/27).
