2014 World Cup Local Organizing Committee Launches Volunteer Program For World Cup

The 2014 World Cup Local Organizing Committee launched the volunteer program on Tuesday in Salvador, Brazil, according to IG.com.br. The event marked the opening day for people to send in their applications, which they can do through the FIFA website. The expectation of the committee is "to have approximately" 1,500 volunteers per World Cup host city, totaling 18,000 recruits. For the 2013 Confederations Cup, that number should be 8,000 volunteers. More than 80,000 applications are expected. Anybody over the age of 18, from any nationality, can apply for a volunteer position. Each volunteer "will have to fulfill shifts of up to 10 hours" during the 20 days of the Confederations Cup or World Cup. There will be no financial compensation, but each individual will receive food, transportation and a uniform (IG.com.br, 8/21).
