West Ham Coach Warns London's Olympic Stadium Could Become 'White Elephant'

EPL West Ham United Manager Sam Allardyce warned that London's Olympic Stadium will become a "white elephant" if his club fails in their bid to turn it into an EPL arena, according to Oliver Kay of the LONDON TIMES. U.K. Athletics has already been guaranteed future use of the venue, which will host the World Championships in '17, but tenancy of the Olympic Park is "still to be determined." West Ham is among four bidders that are being considered by the London Legacy Development Corp. A final decision is expected by October. Allardyce said that the LLDC "would be making a big mistake if it failed to realise the benefits of staging football at the stadium." Allardyce: "If they keep it for athletics, the only time it will ever get a big crowd again after the Olympics is when they hold the World Championships there in five years' time." He added, "You only have to look around the world at some of the Olympic Stadiums that have been built. They're white elephants now. There are weeds growing there. Look at the Bird's Nest in Beijing. Look at Athens" (LONDON TIMES, 8/13).
