The 18 German Bundesliga Clubs Have Sold Close To 500,000 Season Tickets

The 18 German Bundesliga clubs "have already sold 480,595 season tickets for the 50th anniversary season of the league," according to the DPA. This means the league is on the same pace as last years record-breaking season ticket sales number of 480,835. Each club has sold an average of 26,700 season tickets. On top of the list sits current champion Borussia Dortmund with 54,000 sold season tickets, followed by rival Schalke 04 (43,195) and Bayern Munich (38,000). The top three, as well as many other clubs, "have already stopped their season ticket sales." The fans of newly promoted Fortuna Dusseldorf, which returned to Germany's top flight after a 15-year hiatus, have helped the team to sell a record-breaking 31,000 season tickets. Fortuna board member Sven Mühlenbeck said, "The fact that we've sold that many season tickets is simply sensational. We honestly didn't expect that" (DPA, 8/7).
