IOC Reaches Deal With CBC-Radio-Canada To Broadcast Sochi, Rio Olympics

The IOC announced a media rights deal with CBC-Radio-Canada to broadcast the '14 Winter Games in Sochi and the '16 Summer Games in Rio. The deal extends to Canadian rights across free-to-air TV, subscription TV, Internet and mobile phone. IOC President Jacques Rogge said, "CBC/Radio-Canada has a wealth of experience in broadcasting sports and the Olympic Games, and we are pleased that we will once again be joining forces with them in the future" (IOC). GLOBE & MAIL reported that the IOC recently "rejected two bids submitted by BCE's Bell Media unit" and the CBC that were thought to be around C$70M. That is "half what Bell and Rogers Media paid for the rights to broadcast" the London and '10 Vancouver Games (GLOBE & MAIL, 8/1).
