The Rio de Janeiro government has bought the Indian Museum for R$60M ($29.7M) and "should demolish the building for Maracanã reforms," according to Vinicius Konchinski of UOL.com.br. The "historic building" will be demolished to make room for upgrades to the surroundings of the Maracanã Stadium for the 2014 World Cup. Rio de Janeiro Governor Sergio Cabral said that the upgrades around the stadium for the 2014 World Cup and 2013 Confederations Cup will "leave an open space for people to circulate close to the stadium." Cabral: "Over there will be an area for mobility, an area that is required by FIFA and that is correct" (UOL.com.br, 7/19).
AIRPORT UPGRADES: PORTAL2014 reported that the airport in the 2014 World Cup host city of Salvador "will receive investments" of R$100M ($49.4M) until December '13. Salvador will host three Confederation Cup matches and six World Cup encounters (PORTAL2014.com.br, 7/18).
