For Financial Reasons, FC Porto Decides To Get Rid Of Basketball Section

Portuguese multi-sports club FC Porto has "extinguished its basketball section," allegedly for financial reasons, according to DIARIO DE NOTICIAS. The club has not confirmed the news, but Portuguese Basketball Federation President Mario Saldanha made the following statement. Saldanha: "I received the information, in official form, by phone, from the FC Porto administration, Julio de Matos, who said that FC Porto would not continue with basketball in the league. It was a notice I received with much sadness, naturally. It was one of the oldest teams in the league, with lots of titles." The basketball team was founded in '26 and "has won more than 200 titles" at various levels, including 11 league titles (DN, 7/12).
