German Public Broadcaster To Show Champions League Games

German public broadcaster ZDF will feature 18 UEFA Champions League games in its program this upcoming season. ZDF will start its Champions League live coverage on Aug. 21 or 22 when Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach plays in the CL qualification hoping to advance to the CL group stage. All other Champions League games will be broadcast live on pay-TV channel Sky (SID, 7/11).

PRICE INCREASE FOR SPORTS BARS:  DIGITALFERNSEHEN.de reported that German pay-TV channel Sky Deutschland will increase its subscription prices for sports bars. Sky spokesperson Britta Krämer said that "sports bar customers will see a price increase of about 10%" in the future. Reason for this increase is "the dramatically improved sports program" of Sky. The pay-TV channel was able to acquire the broadcasting rights for the German Bundesliga in April. The German Football League will receive €485.7M ($592.2M) per season starting with the '13-14 season. (DIGITALFERNSEHEN.de, 7/10).

SKY SPORT NEWS HD AUSTRIA: QUOTENMETER.de's Jan Schlüter reported that pay-TV channel Sky Deutschland "will start a new segment on Saturday" called "Österreich Update." The new segment, which will air on Sky's sport news channel "Sky Sport News HD" is geared at the channel's Austrian audience, and will report on a daily basis about Austrian sport news. The new segment consists of six reporters and "airs daily from 6:00pm to 1:00am" CEST (QUOTENMETER.de, 7/12).
