A part of the Maracanã's old grandstand was donated by the Rio de Janeiro government to the recently opened National Football Museum in Manchester, England. Museum Dir Kevin Moore "already guaranteed that he will reserve a special place" for the pieces (COPA2014.gov.br, 7/9).
GO WEST: UEFA has agreed to a three-year partnership with global payment service Western Union. The deal will begin immediately and run through the '15 UEFA Europa League final (UEFA).
SUSPENSION: The Court of Arbitration for Sport has dismissed an appeal by Turkish club Beşiktaş JK against the decision by the UEFA Appeals Body on May 30. CAS has confirmed the sanctions imposed by the UEFA Appeals Body. Consequently, Beşiktaş JK is excluded from the next two UEFA club competitions for which they qualify in the next five seasons; the exclusion for the second competition is suspended for a probationary period of five years. Beşiktaş JK are also fined €200,000 ($245,000), of which €100,000 ($122,500) is suspended for a probationary period of five years (UEFA).
DEEP POCKETS: The SID reported that the Bundesliga clubs have already spent more than €120M ($152M) on new players, stadium upgrades and management positions. The 18 clubs "work vigorously" to build a solid foundation for the future (SID, 7/10).
