Roger Federer Has 'Reached The Peak' Of His Marketing Value

Swiss tennis star Roger Federer, who won a record-tying seventh Wimbledon title on Sunday, has "reached the peak of his marketing value," according to Pascal Meisser of CASH.ch. No other tennis player "has earned more money" than Federer or has been ranked world No. 1 "for more consecutive weeks." Only a few "could win a big tournament" past the age of 30. According to Zurich marketing expert Cary Steinmann, the 17th Grand Slam title could be his last. Steinmann said, "If I was Roger Federer, I would retire immediately. This would secure him a spot among the greatest athletes of all time" (CASH.ch, 7/9). FORBES' Kurt Badenhausen reported that in addition to Federer's success on the court, he has "been even more successful off the court." Federer made $45M from endorsements, exhibitions and appearance fees over the last 12 months. Federer has "the most impressive portfolio in sports" with nine sponsors who collectively pay him more than $30M a year including Nike, Rolex, Wilson and Credit Suiss (FORBES, 7/6).
