Olympics Notes

English footballer David Beckham could still compete at the London Olympics as a reserve to the Great Britain squad. Team GB Manager Stuart Pearce must submit four names by Friday but "has the option to change them at any time up to July 25," the eve of the team's opening fixture against Senegal at Old Trafford (LONDON TIMES, 7/2).

OLYMPIC OBSTACLE: In London, Jacobs & Kortekaas wrote queues for immigration at Heathrow have again reached "unacceptable levels" at peak times. Heathrow owner BAA said that travelers not of European citizenship had to wait up to 90 minutes to pass through immigration last week. The wait time doubled the maximum wait time target, and "frustrated passengers complained that only a portion of the desks were manned." The Home Office admitted there had been breaches of its service level agreement in recent days, but "insisted the Olympics travel rush would go smoothly" (FINANCIAL TIMES, 7/2).
