Study: Foreigners Believe Brazil Is Ready For Upcoming Sporting Events

A survey conducted at the Rio+20 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development revealed that foreigners believe Brazil is "prepared for the big sporting events" coming up, according to COPA 2014. The results showed more than 80% "believe that the country is or will be prepared" for the 2013 Confederations Cup, 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. The objective of the survey was to "define what the strengths and challenges are" for the organizations in charge of the events. Instituto Brasileiro de Turismo President Flavio Dino said, "The results show that the natural beauty, the personality of Brazilians and hospitality are the national characteristics that are most striking." When asked about their visit to the country, 68% said "the experience corresponded too or exceeded" their expectations. And 59% said that the "image they had of Brazil improved" after the visit. When asked about a return trip, 97% responded that they "want to return." In terms of security, 72% said it was "good or very good." The things that were viewed negatively from the survey results were: "prices, difficulty with the language and the transit." The latter receiving the worst score with 81% saying it was either "bad or really bad." The study was conducted June 20-21 with 228 delegates or journalists who were present at the Rio+20 Conference (COPA2014.gov.br, 7/3).
