ServusTV Implements New Features Into DEL Coverage

Austrian TV station ServusTV, which bought the broadcasting rights for the German Hockey League (DEL), will implement new features in its weekly Sunday game coverage, according to Michael Neudecker of SUEDDEUTSCHE ZEITUNG. ServusTV will broadcast "every game in HD, using 14 different cameras including inside the looker rooms." It is very unusual that an Austrian TV station would buy the rights for the DEL, but for ServusTV, which is owned by energy drink producer Red Bull, "Germany is the most important market." Having the exclusive broadcasting rights for the DEL could help ServusTV to establish itself in the German market. ServusTV CEO Martin Blank said, "Hockey has a huge potential. Because it's an awesome sport" (SUEDDEUTSCHE ZEITUNG, 6/26).
