New Twist In Australian Olympic Weightlifter Scandal

Accused Australian weightlifter Daniel Koum is "threatening legal action" against his Olympic head coach, a former lifter and a current teammate, according to Phil Lutton of the SYDNEY MORNING HERALD. Koum has been accused of demanding $5,000 or he would "sabotage Australia's effort to secure a men's spot at the London Olympics." He has denied any impropriety. His lawyers have sent defamation notices to Australian Weightlifting Federation CEO Mike Keelan, Olympic coach, Queensland lifter and Commonwealth Games gold medallist Ben Turner and retired lifter Simon Heffernan (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 6/20).
