Lato Will Not Step Down After Being Asked By Sports Minister

Polish FA President Grzegorz Lato "refused to bow to growing pressure to resign" after the Euro 2012 co-hosts failed to reach the knockout stage, according to Anna Rychert of REUTERS. Lato said that he did "everything possible" to help the team prepare for the tournament. Lato said, "I and the association did everything for our team to prepare them for the Euros." Lato has denied mismanagement of the Polish FA and unproven accusations of corruption. Lato said that he had already begun to look for a replacement for Poland coach Franciszek Smuda. Lato: "After the loss with Czech Republic (in Poland's final group game), we started receiving proposals from Europe and even Brazil to take over as coach after Smuda" (REUTERS, 6/19).
