UEFA To Provide Insurance For National Team Players

UEFA will reimburse football clubs when their players are injured playing for their national team, according to Guillaume Errard of LE FIGARO. This new insurance policy went into effect before the start of Euro 2012 and expires on May 31, 2018. The players are insured for "one year from the date of the injury," for as much as €7.5M ($9.5M) of their gross salary. However, the clubs will continue to pay the salaries but they will be compensated afterward by UEFA. This same type of policy was already put into place last month by FIFA for the upcoming World Cups, and UEFA has now followed suit (LE FIGARO, 6/15).
