New Arena for Gummersbach, Almost Double In Size

German team handball club VfL Gummersbach will move to a new arena in '13, according to German website KICKER.de. The 12-time German champions will “leave its current home venue," the Eugen-Haas-Halle, with a capacity of 2,100 and move to the soon-to-be-built Schwalbe-Arena, which will have a seating capacity of 4,100, in the summer of '13. Gummersbach Mayor Frank Helmenstein called the move a “quantum leap that will provide the foundation for an athletically and financially secure future.” The new arena will have a “price tag of around" €10.7M ($13.5M), and construction is set to start in the fall of '12 (KICKER.de, 6/14).
