Rangers' Uncertainty Affecting Scottish Football Fixture Planning

Scottish football "will risk chaos" next week by publishing a full fixture list, despite SPL Rangers' "future still being shrouded in doubt," according to Gordon Waddell of the Scottish SUNDAY MAIL. The SPL and Scottish Football League will both release the season's schedule on June 18, and the "stricken Ibrox club will be included in the top flight's plans." The Rangers are "tying a furious SFA's hands behind their backs" over setting a date for their Appeals Tribunal to reconsider the transfer ban case the club took to the Court of Session. Each party was given 21 days to appeal and SFA chief Stewart Regan made it clear immediately that "there would be no appeal from the SFA." The Rangers, however, "have hinted strongly they will wait for the full 21 days before revealing their strategy." That means it will be June 19 "before the SFA can start to plan a date for the tribunal" (Scottish SUNDAY MAIL, 6/10). In Glasgow, Robert Thomson noted that SFA President Campbell Ogilvie vowed to quit "if he became an embarrassment." Ogilvie, who received £95,000 ($147,000) from an Ibrox Employee Benefit Trust, insisted that he did not know the extent of the payments and "claimed he had no idea the scheme might be illegal." Ogilvie said that he was confident the SPL probe into the Rangers' use of EBTs "would clear his name" (SCOTTISH SUN, 6/10).
