NASCAR President Brent Dewar Engages With Fans On Twitter

NASCAR President Brent Dewar this weekend defended Chair & CEO Brian France in several conversations with fans on Twitter after France was criticized last week for allegedly not being at races in person enough. NASCAR driver Brad Keselowski reignited the topic when he said that if he could change one thing with the sport, it would be to have France at race weekends more. But Dewar pushed back on Twitter, part of a strategy he undertook when he was promoted from COO to President in July '17.

In one instance, Twitter user @tgvanhorne tweeted to Keselowski that NASCAR “needs to hire a hands on president.” Dewar tweeted back to the user, “He did!! He hired me and you can meet me at the track any weekend.” In another instance, Twitter user @frankp316 tweeted, “Many fans aren't buying what @brentdewar. Is selling re: Brian France. Perception is reality.” Dewar responded, “No need to buy Frank, as I am not selling. Just setting a balance to the conversation of disengagement. Just not true. Where he watches it from or is seen is irrelevant in my humble opinion. Not his job. It’s mine.” Dewar also engaged with several other fans during a busy weekend on Twitter, including some more lighthearted exchanges, and some remarked that they were pleasantly surprised to get personal responses from the president of the sport.
