Weekend Hot Reads....

The Cleveland PLAIN DEALER writes under the header, "Walter Goldbach, Who Drew Chief Wahoo At 17, Never Meant It To Become A Symbol Of Racism." The logo has been a part of the Indians' uniform "ever since" Goldbach drew his original picture of a "smiling yellow-skinned Indian with a crooked nose, red feather and ponytail" in '47. Goldbach, who died on Wednesday, "lived long enough to see his rendering, drawn with the enthusiasm and innocence of a high school student, become embroiled in the adult world of protests, racism and lawsuits."

The ARIZONA REPUBLIC writes under the header, "ASU Football, Herm Edwards Must Go All-In With NFL Approach." The program "wants to operate like an NFL franchise," but they "only resemble" the Browns. ASU VP/Athletics Ray Anderson is the "subject of national ridicule," and the new model's installation is being seen as a "false start" after the team lost its coordinators. But "chaos offers opportunity." The debacle could be a "blessing in disguise, lowering the expectations to the bottom floor."
