RBC Canadian Open Dir Temporarily Removed From Position

RBC Canadian Open Tournament Dir Brent McLaughlin was "temporarily removed from his position" mid-tournament. Golf Canada CEO Laurence Applebaum "confirmed the move but would not provide any details on the situation." Applebaum: "It’s a confidential employee matter. Brent will not be here for the weekend.” However, Applebaum added that McLaughlin has "not been terminated but did not give any indication as to the next steps." McLaughlin "also heads up the CP Women’s Open slated for late August in Ottawa." The former Tournament Dir, Golf Canada's Bill Paul, has "taken over the helm" for the rest of this week (TSN.ca, 7/29).

Applebaum yesterday said that Glen Abbey Golf Club in Oakville, Ont., will "host the tournament again" in '18, but that, given the plan by the course’s owner to "eventually develop the property into a residential community, Golf Canada will spend the coming months looking for a permanent site" (TORONTO STAR, 7/30).
