ATP Event Leaving Memphis, Relocating To Long Island In '18

The ATP Memphis Open is leaving the city after a 41-year run and "will be relocated to Long Island" in '18, a source confirmed. Declining profits and a "failure to secure a title sponsor prompted New York-based GF Sports, which acquired the event in 2015, to move it." The tourney in recent years "found itself under new ownership and faced growing financial obstacles." A three-year deal with presenting sponsor ServiceMaster expired this year (COMMERCIALAPPEAL.com, 4/7). The relocated event will be the "newest sports attraction" at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The event "will be held" Feb. 10-18, 2018 (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 4/10 issue).

Meanwhile, fans of Billy Joel are "livid after having to shell out $40 for parking" for his concert at the Coliseum on Wednesday night, which officially reopened the venue. Disgruntled fans "took to social media to express their frustrations" (NYPOST.com, 4/7).
