Warriors' Quest To Break Bulls' Wins Record Continues Tonight

The Warriors' quest for 73 wins "remains alive thanks to a thrilling comeback" last night against the Grizzlies. The 100-99 win improves the Warriors' record to 71-9 as they "head to San Antonio" tonight for a game against the Spurs, who have a 39-0 home record (SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS, 4/9). Last night's win keeps alive the team's "hopes of passing" the '95-96 Bulls' record of 72 victories (S.F. CHRONICLE, 4/10). NBA TV tonight will feature a special free preview of Warriors-Spurs. Their matchup Jan. 25 on NBA TV was the most-watched and highest-rated NBA game in network history with 1.44 million viewers (NBA). Meanwhile, ESPN will broadcast Grizzlies-Warriors on Wednesday as the Warriors look to either tie or break the Bulls' record (ESPN). 

Masters Survey Asks Fans To Rate Quality Of Concession Food

The final pairing of Jordan Spieth and Smylie Kaufman today teed off at 2:45pm ET in the final round of The Masters, with Golf Channel's Rich Lerner noting the "wind is down, and we expect the excitement level to ramp up." Lerner said it is "quite cool, but the sun is out" ("Live From The Masters," Golf Channel, 4/10). Meanwhile, patrons in attendance yesterday took time to complete a survey "at a computer behind the 17th green." The questions "ranged from age to how people received badges to rating aspects of the concession stands." One of the questions "asked patrons to rate concession sandwiches from poor to excellent" (AUGUSTA.com, 4/9).

NBA Kings Bid Farewell To Sleep Train Arena In Final Game

Sleep Train Arena last night hosted its final NBA Kings game, and hundreds of fans "were outside the arena three hours before the game started." Current and former Kings owners "were also on hand," and team Managing Partner Vivek Ranadive "led a pregame ceremony." The arena in May will host a Selena Gomez concert and Sacramento State Univ. graduation, and "other events may be added" (SACRAMENTO BEE, 4/10). The Kings' final game at the arena "was a purely Sacramento spectacle, respectful of the past, yet mindful of the future" (SACRAMENTO BEE, 4/10). The Sacramento Bee collected some "firsthand recollections of the arena" (SACRAMENTO BEE, 4/10). 

Senators GM Bryan Murray To Move Into Role As Senior Advisor

The Senators today announced GM Bryan Murray has "decided to move into a role as a senior advisor" while promoting Assistant GM Pierre Dorion to his position. Dorion was the Senators' Dir of Player Personnel before "being elevated" to assistant GM in '14. Murray, who is battling Stage 4 colon cancer, "won't be out of the picture completely." Murray had "been considering moving into a different role for over a year and can bring his wealth of experience to help Dorion." Murray's new job will keep him involved as the team tries "to get back to the playoffs next season" (OTTAWACITIZEN.com, 4/10).

Frozen Four Title Game In Tampa Draws Third-Largest Crowd Ever

North Dakota beat Quinnipiac 5-1 at the Frozen Four in Tampa at Amalie Arena last night to win its eighth national championship, and the announced attendance of 19,538 was the "third-largest for a Frozen Four title game." Tampa Bay Sports Commission Exec Dir Rob Higgins said that his focus is "bringing the Frozen Four back" to the city in '20, '21 or '22. Higgins said, "We've received a lot of positive feedback. ... Early signs so far are pretty strong." Tampa hosted the Frozen Four in '12, and bids will "be taken in the fall by the NCAA to host four championships" from '19-22 (TAMPA BAY TIMES, 4/10). Tampa "knows how to do" the Frozen Four and "do it well" (TAMPA BAY TIMES, 4/10).

NFL Details Plans For "Draft Town" Festivities In Chicago

The NFL on Friday detailed some "attractions planned for 'Draft Town,' the free fan festival" at the NFL Draft. Draft Town will "feature the Vince Lombardi Trophy, a Ferris wheel, NFC and AFC replica locker rooms, a tailgate area and sets for both NFL Network and ESPN." The NFL museum "will feature" historic Bears items, plus a collection of Super Bowl rings and title game trophies. Fans also will "be able to do combine drills" such as the vertical jump and 40-yard dash (CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, 4/8).

Pacquiao Beats Bradley, Reiterates Decision To Retire From Boxing

Manny Pacquiao last night beat Timothy Bradley Jr. before a crowd of 14,665 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, with Pacquiao reiterating his plan to retire afterward. He said, "Yes, I am now retired. I am going to go home and spend time with my family and serve my people" (LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL, 4/10). Fans "booed" when Pacquiao talked about his decision, as last night's fight showed that he "still had what it takes to create a thunderous atmosphere" (N.Y. TIMES, 4/10). YAHOO SPORTS' Kevin Iole wrote Pacquiao "should stick with the decision," but he "probably won't" (SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 4/10).

Flyers Provide Moving Pregame Tribute To Team Chair Ed Snider

The Flyers last night clinched a playoff spot with a win over the Penguins, and in a "moving pregame tribute" to ill team Chair Ed Snider, Flyers National Anthem singer Lauren Hart "face-timed her rendition" of "God Bless America" to him. Flyers COO Shawn Tilger said, "It was her idea; it was just one of those things that came from the heart." Flyers players "talked in revered tones about Snider and how he had provided the inspiration" for this season. Flyers G Steve Mason said of Snider, who lives in California, "He's the face of this franchise. Even though he hasn't been around, he hasn't been forgotten, that's for sure. We just want to make him proud" (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 4/10).

Fans Rewarded For Braving Frigid Temperatures At MLB Games

Yesterday's Indians-White Sox game at U.S. Cellular Field "was 32 degrees with a wind chill of 25" at the game's 3:10pm CT start time, and fans who "braved the cold temperatures were offered gift certificates for a free upper-deck seat or a $5 outfield reserve seat at a future April or May home game" (CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, 4/10). In Detroit, the Tigers yesterday "played the coldest game in Comerica Park history," as it was 31 degrees at first pitch. The announced attendance was 32,419, proving Tigers fans "to be a tough, hardy bunch" (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 4/10).

Meanwhile, the White Sox during their home opening series against the Indians this week unveiled their new 8,000-square-foot video board. White Sox manager Robin Ventura said, "It looks nice. I don't know if it will make us play any better, but I like it" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 4/9).

Nationals Introduce Herbert Hoover As Latest Racing President Mascot

Herbert Hoover this morning was announced as the latest racing president for the Nationals, joining the likes of George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt. The announcement came via "Meet the Press," with reporter Jordan Frasier noting Hoover's reputation "recovered after he left office" ("Meet the Press," 4/10). Hoover's introduction will be one of the organization's "best opportunities to educate Nationals fans on one of the nation's most misunderstood presidents." The Nationals last year introduced Calvin Coolidge to the popular in-game races, but he was "simply a visiting racer" (WASHINGTONPOST.com, 4/9). Members of the White House Historical Association today took part in various aspects of the team's game against the Marlins (Nationals). 

Former NFLer Will Smith Killed In Overnight Incident In New Orleans

Former NFLer Will Smith late yesterday was "shot and killed in New Orleans following a fender bender." Smith's wife, Racquel, was "wounded and taken to a hospital" (NOLA.com, 4/10). Saints Senior VP/Communications Greg Bensel tweeted, "A senseless and tragic loss." Numerous other Saints and players around the NFL "expressed their condolences and shock as well throughout the night on social media" (NOLA.com, 4/10). Former teammate Zach Strief tweeted, "Shocked and devastated. I'm so overwhelmed with grief over this." Eagles CB Malcolm Jenkins: "Words can't express how much I will miss my teammate and friend Will Smith!" Smith's agent Joel Segal said in a statement, "He was an amazing man whose true joy came from his special family" (THE DAILY).

The 76ers this afternoon officially announced Bryan Colangelo as their new President of Basketball Operations (76ers). 

Lawmakers in Missouri are "advancing legislation to make Missouri one of the first states to adopt policies allowing for daily fantasy sports" (AP, 4/9).

Ryan Zimmerman Field, a few blocks from Nationals Park in DC, "has a new turf field" and was dedicated yesterday morning. The multipurpose field named for the Nationals 1B has "lines for soccer and other sports in addition to baseball" (WASHINGTON POST, 4/10).

Approximately 5,000 fans turned out for today's Duke-Notre Dame lacrosse match in South Bend, setting an all-time record for Arlotta Stadium ("Duke-Notre Dame," ESPNU, 4/10).

ESPN.com's Zach Lowe wrote former NBA Creative Dir Tom O'Grady "sifted through his archives, and unearthed a treasure" in the mock-ups the Nets came up with nearly two decades ago when they almost changed their name to Swamp Dragons. O'Grady: "In the 1990s, this wasn't so insane. It was all about bright colors, and bold fashions." Former Nets President Jon Spoelstra, who was hired to change the team's marketing effort, said, "We had no redeemable history. We had never won anything. ... The team never had a chance with that name." Former Nets Dir of Merchandise & Product Development Billy Paige: "It was so cool. It would have gone global."

The N.Y. Times' Joe Nocera wrote under the header, "The NFL Has Seen The Future, And It Is WWE Wrestling." What got Nocera "thinking about WWE's business model was the news earlier this week that the NFL had sold the streaming rights for 10 Thursday night games to Twitter." What the NFL is "doing is not all that different from what WWE has done with its digital app." BTIG Research Analyst Brandon Ross said, "Sports is what keeps people coming to television."
