Goodell Says Stadium Proposals Not Viable Ahead Of Possible L.A. Vote

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in a memo to all 32 teams yesterday wrote that the current stadiums in Oakland, St. Louis and San Diego are "'unsatisfactory and inadequate,' and the proposed solutions are not viable to keep the Raiders, Rams and Chargers in their home markets." The intent of the 48-page report is to "establish facts about the home markets, as the league views them, heading into" this week's special owners meetings on L.A. relocation. Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones also "sent a one-page letter to Goodell saying that he supports the Chargers and Rams sharing the Inglewood stadium." A source said that the letter "didn't mention the Raiders" (L.A. TIMES, 1/10). Jones in his letter laid the "groundwork for a potential negotiated solution" (L.A. DAILY NEWS, 1/10).

Meanwhile, a group of "boisterous" L.A. Rams fans yesterday gathered for a rally at the Coliseum, "heralding their NFL franchise's possibly imminent return to Southern California" (AP, 1/9). Rams Owner Stan Kroenke has "come to be viewed as a sort of Touchdown Jesus with Southern California Rams fans" (ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER, 1/10).
