Several Leagues Named As Defendants In Latest DFS Lawsuit

The legal chaos that "imperils the daily fantasy sports industry now officially threatens" leagues, media companies and financial institutions "that have become partners" with DraftKings and FanDuel. Two Florida-based DFS customers yesterday "e-filed a class action lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida against approximately 50 companies and individuals that have either invested in DFS companies or facilitated DFS gaming." The defendants named include several leagues -- the NBA, MLB Ventures, NHL Ventures and MLS -- as well as The Kraft Group, Legends Hospitality and MSG Sports & Entertainment. Several media companies -- Turner Sports, Time Warner, NBC Sports Comcast Ventures, 21st Century Fox and Fox Sports Interactive Media -- are also named in the suit (SI.com, 11/21).

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, speaking before Packers-Vikings today said that he "sees a distinction between season and daily leagues." Goodell said that he "wants consumer protections on fantasy leagues," and fantasy football "should be about fun not money" (TWITTER.com, 11/22). Meanwhile, Goodell, before touring the Vikings' new U.S. Bank Stadium said the venue "looks extraordinary" from the outside. Goodell: "The way [Vikings Owners the Wilfs] brought the community in and the facility itself is obviously going to be state of the art. I think it’s going to be great for the fans and great for this community" (TWINCITIES.com, 11/22).
