Mexico Friendly Draws 88K In L.A.; Argentina Game Gets 54K In DC

The Mexico men's national soccer team yesterday defeated Ecuador 1-0 before "the 88,409 who descended" on L.A. Memorial Coliseum (L.A. TIMES, 3/29). Meanwhile, yesterday's Argentina-El Salvador friendly at FedEx Field sold "almost 54,000 tickets," but stadium personnel "was understaffed [and] two parents ... feared for their children’s safety because of crowd-control problems." The WASHINGTON POST's Steven Goff asks, "Why does the U.S. Soccer Federation continue sanctioning international matches at this soulless, mismanaged slice of hell? And why do people continue purchasing overpriced tickets to soccer events there? I just don’t get it" (WASHINGTON POST, 3/29).
