NU Union Reps Headed To Capitol Hill; Emmert Tackles Issue On TV

College Athletes Players Association President Ramogi Huma and former Northwestern QB Kain Colter "will take their case to Capitol Hill lawmakers" this week "for informational briefings with an undisclosed set of legislators." Huma said, "Obviously, Congress has the power to affect conditions for college athletes as well, and we want to correct some of the false statements that have been made about what we're trying to do" (ESPN.com, 3/30)

Meanwhile, after joining NBC's "Meet The Press" a week ago, NCAA President Mark Emmert made two more TV appearances this weekend. He spoke this morning on CBS' "Face The Nation," and yesterday on the TBS' NCAA Tournament pregame show. Emmert told Greg Gumbel, "If the courts decide to go down a road where they create a unionized labor model, I think that is a disastrous outcome for college sports -- and we will see a very, very different landscape in five or ten years" ("NCAA March Madness," TBS, 3/29).
